....A journal. Naturally, some names in this journal are psuedonyms to protect the privacy of those innocent and not-so-innocent friends and family. (and to prevent any in-family slander and defamation suits. ) My reasons for writing? (Egomania? Too much free time ? )

I believe the desire to write is a need to have one's voice heard. As long as your work is confined to your own notebook or your PC, you are , in a sense, unheard.

I believe that everything that we see and experience leaves an impression on us. The more profound the experience, the more it becomes imprinted on our psyche. Some things will leave a faint residue on our consciousness. Some things will leave an indelible mark on our soul. Some experiences will be a blueprint that we bring forward and repeat throughout our lives.. Within every person there is a story or an impression that is worth sharing.

The written word has fallen into the background. This neglected skill has been replaced with high tech visual images. These are impressive and are predominant, but are limiting, rather than being broadening to the imagination.

As Claude DeBussey said, to choose a name for a piece of his music, he takes 75% of the enjoyment out of it, because it places another's pre concieved image on it, and hence robs us of our subtle process of imagination.

{There is no strong segue here, but......}To interpret this broadly, it is far more pleasurable to read the impressions of another, and imagine, than to have a story splayed out before us in 3 dimensional visual depiction.

I am always struck by the fact that Shakespeare wrote all 39 plays and the sonnets with a quill and a jar of ink. Modern writers have the distinct advantage of a micro processor, a thesaurus, and photo editing software. We should expect no less than greatness in our finished product, no?

I'll try my best. http://members.diaryland.com/edit/notes.phtml?user=msboston
